The successful launch of viable MEMs product hinges on MEMS reliability, the reliability and qualification for MEMs based products is not widely understood. Companies that have a deep understanding of MEMs reliability view the information as a competitive advantage and are reluctant to share it. MEMs Reliability, focuses on the reliability and manufacturability of MEMS at a fundamental level by addressing process development and characterization, material property characterization, failure mechanisms and physics of failure (POF), design strategies for improving yield, design for reliability (DFR), packaging and testing.

This review is from: MEMS Reliability (MEMS Reference Shelf) (Hardcover) I have been working in MEMS technology for over 25 years and run one of the most well-known MEMS fabrication service providers in the United States called the MEMS and Nanotechnology Exchange or MNX.Over the past 10 or 15 years or so, there have a large number of MEMS books that have been come out. Unfortunately, most of these books rehash the same material over and over and usually have a few chapters on MEMS design, followed by a few chapters on MEMS fabrication, and concluding with a few chapters on examples of devices and applications. Sometimes the script has a different ordering, but the content is usually essentially the same. This book is different and offers new and very useful information about a very important topic, that is, MEMS reliability. Back in the 1990's when MEMS was just really starting to become commercialized in earnest, there was a considerable amount of debate in the technical community about the reliability of this... Read more ![]() This review is from: MEMS Reliability (MEMS Reference Shelf) (Hardcover) I am not an engineer, but have worked on a number of lawsuits involving semiconductors and electrical circuits and devices. It is always a challenge to put technology into a readable, comprehensible presentation. I purchased this book to learn about MEMs, something I knew little about, and how reliable they could be in commercial applications (something essential to know for any component, especially a complicated technology). The book explained the products, applications, and reliability issues in increasing levels of detail and complexity such that I could read and learn. The book also cites to numerous real world examples and other sources, which I am sure will be helpful in the future as I deal more with this technology. I highly recommend this book for any one who has a very basic knowledge of physics or semiconductors or electronics, and wants to learn what MEMS are, their applications, and their reliability as a product or component. |
