I bought it for one of my friends as a Christmas gift and I'm sure that they will like it. It is leather bound with gold leafed lettering on the front cover and on the outside of the pages. The pages are very thin, almost like a bible or something of the sort and the words are pretty small print but not so small to render it unreadable. The book is beautifully bound, the pages have gold around the edges, and the pages are of normal thickness (which, looking at the comments of reviewers for other books in this series, is not true of all of them). The only downside is that sometimes the translations are a little strange and there are occasional misprints. There are only a few times where these problems are noticeable, however, and my boyfriend and I have had a fantastic time reading through these stories together. The more well known stories are fascinating because original versions of the stories are sometimes quite different than what I heard growing up. The lesser known stories are also interesting, and are often highly entertaining (more than anything because they seem so strange; things have changed a lot since the 1800s). The only downside is that there is a bar code sticker that the manufacturers have placed on the leather cover. REALLY STUPID ON THEIR PART (not Amazon's). But there is a trick to removing it. Use a hair drier on high heat for a couple of minutes and you can get the sticker to come off without tearing or leaving behind a nasty residue that ruins the cover. If you try to simple peel it off, you WILL scuff up the cover and leave behind sticker bits and sticky residue. Consider yourself warned about the sticker, but don't miss out on a quality leather bound classic. |
