Product Description
From author of The Christmas Hope series, which has enthralled millions of readers, comes a new inspirational novel about an unlikely friendship between two women, but one that will change each of their lives forever.
Gretchen Daniels has recently moved into an apartment with her two children to be closer to her mother, Miriam. She and her children are building a life together in a new community when a mysterious young woman, Melissa McCreary, moves into the apartment next to them. She has few possessions, little personality, and keeps to herself. One day, a local landlord who is looking for Melissa knocks on Gretchen’s door for assistance. Melissa’s mother has died and in the coming weeks the landlord needs Melissa to empty her mother’s apartment. Gretchen reaches out and offers to help, but the apartment is a gut wrenching shamble of a home. There is little worth saving except for a few photos and a note that is discovered on the crate beside the bed. It is unfinished but in the two scribbled lines, Melissa discovers she has a brother and a sister that she never knew about. Even more shocking, she begins to uncover family secrets that show her who she really is. Can two very different women embark on a journey that explores a long-buried need for forgiveness, hope, and redemption?

At least it ranks high. It's not gooey and cozy, but the ending is so satisfying you'll be reading it over; like going back for seconds of the Christmas pudding. It has mystery and intrigue mixed with a story of family at pre-holiday time. Unfortunately the two main characters, Gretchen and Melissa, both have family problems--eons different--that will dampen this year's Christmas joy. These new condo neighbors have future paths unknown, but it seems fate (or is God tweaking?) has destined them to move ahead shoulder to shoulder. Beyond that, it would be a SIN to divulge any of the content of this marvelous journey, which began with an unfinished note. This is now my favorite Donna VanLiere book. Will it be her next to be adapted to film? To quote the pages: "Really? On a scale of one to ten, how amazing is it?" "A thousand and twenty!" ...end quotes. If Christmas book publishing were a Christmas... Raising two children, looking for a new job, and relocating, she finds herself in the loneliest place she's ever known. But when a mysterious stranger knocks on her door with a heartbreaking message for Melissa, her neighbor, she finds embarks on an unexpected journey of friendship. Melissa, the stand-offish neighbor, carries her own painful past. When Gretchen delivers the bad news, Melissa is determined to not let it rock the life she's struggling through. If only that pesky neighbor would leave her alone. Eventually Gretchen and Melissa find a friend in each other and a community of support to see them through the twists and turns of the upcoming months. VanLiere takes her readers on a path of seeing joy as a choice, life as an adventure, and a God who's big enough to hold us even when we don't know it. What would seem to be coincidence enfolds into God's loving embrace for both... Her previous books include The Christmas Shoes, The Christmas Blessing, and The Christmas Hope.Gretchen Daniels and her two young children move to Grandon to be near her mother after her husband, Kyle, is the victim of a tragic miltary incident in Afghanistan. Living in the condo next door is Melissa McCreary, who seems to have no desire to make any connection with her new neighbors. When Gretchen is asked to pass on a message to Melissa concerning her mother's death, she really has no desire to get involved. Somewhat reluctantly, though, Gretchen finds herself driven by Kyle's "voice" to reach out to Melissa. The discovery of a note that Melissa's mother started, but never finished, sets off a search for a brother and sister Melissa never knew she had. Neither Melissa nor Gretchen has any idea of the twists and turns they... Read more |
