This review is from: The Hunger Games: Official Illustrated Movie Companion (Paperback) As a huge Hunger Games fan, I was extremely excited to receive this book in the mail on its release date. One of my fears with the book was that it would spoil the movie for me. But it really does a great job of keeping big moments a secret and only showing fans pictures and information on the movie prior to the start of the 74th annual Hunger Games. The pictures are beautiful and there is a lot of great information from Suzanne Collins herself as well as the director, makeup artists, etc. on how much really went in to the creation of the movie. Definitely a great purchase for any fan of the series! Trust me, you won't be disappointed and you won't see any huge spoilers from the movie! 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: The Hunger Games: Official Illustrated Movie Companion (Paperback) I've been completely obsessed with The Hunger Games for about two years now, and this book definitely helped my cravings. It has a lot of great back-story on how the movie was produced, cast, directed, and shot. Seeing as how I want to be a filmmaker in the future, these things fascinated me. While i don't want to give too much away, you'll see Capitol food and fashion, more shots of the training center, more behind-the-scenes shots, and concept art for District 12 and the Capitol. Overall, a great gift for any Hunger Games fan! 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: The Hunger Games: Official Illustrated Movie Companion (Paperback) I've been dying to know more about the movie made from this wonderful trilogy. I keep checking forums and pages for sneak peeks of pictures. The movie doesn't come out until the end of March so when I found out about this Illustrated movie companion, I decided I had to have it. I finally got mine yesterday and I couldn't be more happier. There are tons of pictures of the scenery, the tributes and some back story on how Collins came up with the idea for the books. There aren't tons of spoilers, the book sort of ends just before the arena scenes. It gives you just enough of a fix until the premiere of the movie. I really enjoyed this book, if you are as impatient as me and can't wait to know more details, then you should pick it up. You'll love it! |
WINNING MEANS WEALTH, FAME, AND A LIFE OF THERAPY LOSING MEANS DEATH, BUT ALSO FAME! THIS IS THE HUNGER PAINS
When Kantkiss Neverclean replaces her sister as a contestant on the Hunger Games—the second-highest-rated reality TV show in Peaceland, behind Extreme Home Makeover—she has no idea what to expect. Having lived her entire life in the telemarketing district’s worst neighborhood, the Crack, Kantkiss feels unprepared to fight to the death while simultaneously winking and looking adorable for the cameras. But when her survival rests on choosing between the dreamy hunk from home, Carol Handsomestein, or the doughy klutz, Pita Malarkey, Kantkiss discovers that the toughest conflicts may not be found on the battlefield but in her own heart . . . which is unfortunately on a battlefield.

I even have a countdown on my computer until the movie comes out (42 days!!!). So, of course, I was a little skeptical when I saw an ad for the Hunger Pains. How could they make fun of my favorite book?? But I've gotta say, it was SO funny! Kantkiss truly lives up to her name! The characters are so goofy and I was laughing the whole way through. The parody really sticks to the plot of the original book, so it's great for people who like to revisit all the little details in a hilarious way! 18 of 26 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: The Hunger Pains: A Parody (Harvard Lampoon) (Paperback) My friend got me this book because I love the Hunger GAMES and it was super funny. The characters are all based off the ones in the original book, and the story hits all the funniest parts of the real Hunger Games. Kantkiss is a hysterical character. She is clumsy, oblivious, but somehow manages to stumble her way through the Games. And all the parts with Pita were hilarious. He's chubby and nice, and can't catch a break when it comes to his crush on Kantkiss. If you're a fan of the Hunger Games, you should definitely read the Hunger Pains! You will laugh your butt off. 8 of 12 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) The author portrays the original characters of the hunger games in a perfectly comical way. I finished it in a day. |
Mockstrich season has begun. Welcome to "The Hunger But Mainly Death Games," the hilarious Hunger Games parody, and the only book brave enough to suggest that Suzanne Collins's epic trilogy was way more about death than food.
Or at least this is what Bratniss Everclean discovers, when she leaves the comforts of Slum 12, Pandumb's garbage dump, to shortsightedly volunteer for a teenage death tournament. But she soon realizes there are fates worse than death...like weirdly having to date her fellow competitor, and lifelong stalker, Pita Malarkey. Okay, okay, it's not worse than DEATH, but it's still pretty annoying.
Still, with help from her agent Oofie Triptrip and her mentor, Hagridmitch, who's pretty sure he can guide Bratniss to victory in the Tri-Wizard Cup, maybe Bratniss will somehow survive this book that she's the narrator of. "The Hunger But Mainly Death Games" is the perfect book for anyone who's going through Hunger Games withdrawal and ready for a wonderfully twisted take on their favorite story and characters. This book is also for the unfortunate teens who are trapped in a Hunger Games at this very moment and could really benefit from some levity. We're here for you, assuming you brought your books into the arena.

I found myself laughing out loud at something on the majority of pages and it's a really quick read! Great for a plane or train ride. Also, the humor isn't so off-color that it would be inappropriate for a gift to a kid who has read the original book. I have a feeling it will be even funnier when I re-read it after watching the movie... :) 18 of 26 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: The Hunger But Mainly Death Games: A Parody (Kindle Edition) I really laughed, and hard! The Hunger Games are my favorite series, so I guessed I would like it, but I didn't know how funny it would be. I'm still thinking about some of the jokes, still laughing. And "Hagridmitch," you just about did me in! 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?) This review is from: The Hunger But Mainly Death Games: A Parody (Kindle Edition) I wish they would make a movie out of this one instead of the original. The whole world in this book is zany and curious, definitely entertaining throughout. |
